((OOC: !!! I'm gonna barely make this one))
Rune was not pleased with his assignment, but it had to be done. The nitwit Grelom wouldn't be able to pull of an Avren's task. Rune left the Pheonix meeting and headed to the library.
No such luck with reading any books though. None of its was in Avren text. Rune vented his frustration upon a book about recognizing metal ore.
"dang BOOK! Why aren't there any Avren-readable books! I need that money!" Rune sad as he gripped and strangled the book.
The librarian nearby chuckled as he approached Rune. "Well there, It's nice to see some motivated readers abroad. I've never seen someone react so fiery to the literature here."
"Hardly, I can't read the dang book. Your text is like gibberish, too curvy for me." Rune replied tossing the book back upon a pile of scrolls.
The librarian examined the book front and back. His chin wrinked in his attempt to decifer the scrawls. "It's Dwarven. The book is about Ore mining and refinery. Are you interested in that field of expertise?"
"Its for the Pheonix clan, We were asked to aquire tin or copper from the Blood Quarry." Rune sifted to the scrolls once more, "The scrolls the other librarian gave me were all... Dwarven..."
"Dwarves are the people to talk to about mining. It's their second nature. I'm surpised you haven't learned Dwarven yet. The mark says your part of the Avren Elite. Educated I presume? Well the Dwarves must have had some contact with your race... They live right next to you." The librarian said stroking his chin.
"They are?" Rune gasped, "Those little bastards are planning to take over aren't they?"
The librarian chirped aloud in a high pitched laughter. He clutched his stomach as the fit continued a good minute. "Ho...haha. You avrens didn't know they live in Ballin? Its right in the Devvinons. North and West of Winge'"
Runes face was one of surprise. "Er... Well that does not concern me as of yet. I need to know how to get the ore out of the rock. Better yet, what rock I'm looking for."
The librarian wiped his eyes and his laughter subdued. "The rocks are everywhere in the Blood Quarry. Mainly the larger older looking ones. They have little specks of sparking metal. To get it out. You hit it with a hammer, or a sword, whatever suits your fancy. Refinery is not of my knowledge. Maybe you should talk to the Dwarven."
"I'm not talking to them. Koracle can deal with the refinery." Rune said. He spread his wings wide and stretched his arms. The hunkered down part of reasearch had made him creaky. Rune set of towards the door saying his thanks to the librarian.
Hours later he was soaring out of Galia on his way to Dor' Uunda. There he would rest and head West towards the Quarry.
Rune arrived in Dor' Uunda near sunset. Wind-battered and exahsted. He hobbled into the Halfway Tavern. The door flipped open without any effort, or less effort than Rune had anticipated. Rune landed facefirst unto the wooden floors of the relatively quiet tavern.
All eyes were upon him. Some in astonishment, some in drunken curiousity, and some at marvel of the Avrens magestical air... appearance-wise.
"What c'n I do ya for?" Asked the bartender as he rose weakly to his feet. "I c'n see yer tired."
"Yes, I need rest. Would you offer me boarding?" Rune asked.
"Tch! They don't call us'n's the Halfway Tavern fer nothin'!" The bartender replied as he helped the feeble-headed Avren to a quiet room upstairs.
"Were ya 'eaded to next morn?" The bartender asked before he left the Avren.
"The Blood Quarry...." Rune replied as he plopped himself into the bed.
.:**:.
The shafts of light beamed through the dusty windows as a beacon to all that day has arrived. The Avren stirred in his bed. Drowsy and grumpy he arose grumbling to himself. He made his way downstairs to the slow-moving morning guest arriving to start their day of gossip and drinking.
"Top o' the morn to ya!" the bartender called.
Rune made his way to one of the emty seats at the counter. He banged on the countertop and demanded a Silverleaf tea.
"Right away sir." said the bartender sifting through some herbs and placing some in a boiling pot of water.
It simmered into a fine, silvery liquid. It was served to him and his grumpy mood faded away with the aroma and taste of the fine tea.
"Thank you." Rune said.
"Yer most definatly welcome, you owe this humble bartender 20 gold." He said with and outstretched hand. Rune paid the man.
It was about noon when the Avren had finally finished his tea. He made his way out of the tavern. As he reached the doors. The bartender called, "West is that away."

Rune thanked the man, taking off into the sky heading west towards the Quarry. It was not long until he spotted the rocky outcrops. They extended for a vast distance, all the way into the horizon. Rune picked a large ledge from an even larger boulder that jutted out of the earth like the finger of some mighty golem.
He landed upon it, immediately checking for ore. He drew his sword and poked at the rock. There was definately some shiny stuff in there but it was not the kind of stuff he was looking for. The picture on the book looked like a dull silk scrap.
Rune decended the boulder-ish plateau. As he landed he looked for shiny substances on the surface of other rocks. When he finally met the ground he scanned the scenery intensly looking for his target.
Unsatified with his search, He decided that he would take a look around to see if he would find his ore. He had been walking for awhile now under the glare of the sun. The blast of heat soon forced Rune to hide in the shade of a nearby rock ledge.
Rune was sure he'd lost it. For the last few moments of his walk he had seen the tips of jagged rocks melt of and fall to the ground like a massive dropping. He had been smelling a vile smell. Like rotting meat with a tangy twist.
He was not alone... He heard the soft footsteps of something moving near. Rune was in to condition to fight. He hoped and hoped that whatever it was would not bother him. Suddenly he heard a hoarse growl and the shuffle of paws. The shuffling stopped and it became a frantic chase of something away from were he was sitting.
He sighed in relief. He had been sitting for a few moments after the near encounter when the curious matter plopped in a big glob at Rune's talons. The substance was fluid-like but soon harded into a sort of stiff putty. Rune picked it up with his hands. It was heavy. His talons sunk into the stuff as he grasped it. He pulled it and stretched it, and to his amazment. It was a dull, silk-like color.
Runes celebration was shortlived, and he packed the heavy wad of tin into his satchel. He adjusted the strings so it would ride on his back, instead of around his waist.
He arose and wiped his feverish brow. He was sure that it was getting close to evening. The temperature would soon drop to a nice and cool air. Rune stretched his wings wide and warmed his arms and legs up.
But lo, It was never that easy for Rune. The growling beast had come back. The dreaded Nix-wolf...
The beast hurled itself forward with a ferocious desire to kill. These rabid beast were known for their fiery battle-like qualities. Rune drew his sword stopping the wolf's claws with it.
The beast jumped back. It's paw bled and it limped faintly, but the minor wound would not stop this beast. they circled eachother, making eye contact, making sure not to move to quickly. Rune made his charge. Sword first he plunged into the beast. The beast nimbly jumped aside leaving Rune a wall of rock. Reacting quickly Rune leaped off the wall slashing at the beast.
The sword caught the back of the Nix-wolf, leaving an indent on its tough hide. Rune was surprised that it didn't bleed. The wolf was angry now, It leaped at Rune burying it's claws into Rune's shoulder and chest. It grappled his sword with its tentacle mouth.
Rune was at a loss. He was struggling to regain control of the fight. Rune beat his wings sending dust into the Wolf's eyes. The beast drewback and Rune threw it off of him. Rune quickly buried his sword-point into its skull, panting and cursing. He had to use a cheap trick upon a stupid animal...
Rune turned and set off home-ward to collect his pay, but first... Medical attention.
